Networking in a nutshell involves getting out there and talking to people. While some people may think that is extremely easy, others will find it extremely difficult. So what are the critical aspects of successful networking to keep in mind? Take a look at this list:
1. It's not always what someone can do for you. Keep in mind what you can do for others. This not only represents an opportunity to gain a new client, but also to become a resource for some other business owner.
2. Do more than collect business cards. You actually need to talk to people, make an impression, and be sure to have a goal when you go in (at least five contacts).
3. Follow up with more than a call. Schedule a lunch, zoom meeting, or other face to face contact. Be sure to check out our other blog entries to see some statistics on face to face contacts. They really do make a difference.
How do you get good at networking? You have to network and do it often. So if you have an opportunity, take it. You never know how well it works until you see it work for you.
